Pacific Coast University, School of Law (PCU) exists to provide an affordable, quality legal education for working adults. Pacific Coast University, School of Law offers a traditional curriculum in law leading to the Juris Doctor Degree and qualifies graduates to take the General Bar Examination of California. The four-year Juris Doctor course of study includes the subjects covered on the General Bar Examination such as Legal Research, Writing, Trial Techniques (Moot Court) and Pleading and Practice all of which are essential for a lawyer beginning practice. For most students, Pacific Coast University, School of Law represents their one opportunity to become attorneys. The individuals they will serve are, like themselves, hard-working people raising families and trying to advance themselves despite limited funds. Many of our students cope with economic challenges often faced by minorities and women. For these reasons, Pacific Coast University, School of Law has always maintained a policy of keeping education costs to a minimum. Most of our newly graduated attorneys enter law practice in local communities and provide service in civil practice such as family law, property disputes and landlord / tenant matters as well the field of criminal law as public defenders and deputy prosecutors. In order to provide a quality legal education, Pacific Coast University, School of Law has remained small limiting classes to 40 students in order that instructors, all of whom are local practicing attorneys and judges, are accessible for classroom interaction. Study groups are encouraged in the belief that a cooperative atmosphere is more conducive to learning than competition. Pacific Coast University, School of Law provides an education equal to any other institution in the State of California, which prepares students for the California Bar examination. It is Pacific Coast University, School of Law's fundamental belief that when opportunities to enter the law profession are genuinely available, both the individual aspirant and the community, are served. It is the goal of Pacific Coast University, School of Law that attorneys receiving their legal training here, representing as they do a diversity of ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds and sharing a common dedication to their chosen profession and the communities they will serve, shall be morally determined and professionally equipped to advance this process.
